Reflexology

What is it?

Reflexology originates from ancient Egypt- evidence has been found on the tombs. It is a science dealing with the principle that there are reflex areas corresponding to organs, glands and other parts of the body, found in the hands and feet. Reflexology is a unique method which uses the thumbs and fingers on these reflex areas

What does it do?

1. Stress and tension are relieved. 2. Promotes unblocking of nerve impulses and improves the blood supply. 3. Helps nature achieve a homeostasis (balance) between the mind, body and spirit.

There are ten zones, which run through the whole of the body, rather like electrical wiring on a house. The reflexes run through these zones like electricity through wires. The link from the feet and hands to the various glands and organs, is in a series of longitudinal lines which encompass a zone. There is a zone for each finger and each toe. By working on an area of the hand or foot, you are affecting the glands or organs within that zone. When working on an entire hand or foot, it affects an entire side of the body. (E.g. right hand or foot = right side of the body and left hand or foot = left side). Any discomfort on a certain area or zone, could mean that there is something not quite right, or out of balance in that particular zone of the body.

Consultation

Before you begin your treatment, you will be given a consultation, which will take about 15 – 20 minutes. You will be asked about your medical history and present health, diet, life-style and emotional well being, which is also very important. We will also check for any contra-indications before treatment.

The Treatment

Your Therapist will ensure you are warm, relaxed and sitting comfortably. You will have a choice of sitting up or lying down on the couch. The Therapist will sit at the end of the couch where they will have a good view of your feet. They will be examined to check for any foot disorders, e.g. corns, verrucaes etc. If there are no problems, your feet will be cleansed and talc or cream applied, according to your preference. The Therapist will do some massage to relax your feet, so that you can become used to your feet being touched. Your therapist is also getting to know your feet at this time. Before the treatment commences, you will be asked to let the Therapist know if you feel any discomfort or tenderness in any area during the treatment. Your feet will be worked on systematically, covering all the different zones of the body. The therapist will also tell you which parts of the body they are working on, as each part of the foot is done (if you are still awake or wish to know.). The whole treatment will take 40 – 45 minutes. After the treatment, you will be informed of any after-effects you may experience, e.g. a detoxifying effect on the body. You will also be given home-care advice such as drinking plenty of water and relaxation.
We recommend you try this treatment, you will be amazed at the results!!
