Penglaz website -
home of the Penglaz Cooperative who work to safeguard and ensure the
continuation of the Penglaz Tradition in Penwith Penglaz is the Penzance 'Obby 'Oss first described in the 19th century following mummers, dancers and guisers at high holidays and feast days. The modern Penglaz, revived in 1992, appears late at night (She is a Nightmare) to beguile and frighten the Golowan revellers. Based on the description of Penglaz by Penzance antiquarians the 'Obby 'Oss is surrounded by secrecy and myth and is now a tradition jealously guarded by Penzance folk. |

| Woodland graves offer an alternative natural form of burial in which the graves will remain forever in a newly created wood. The area has been planned to create a traditional woodland, providing environmental benefits and encouraging wild life. The woodland burial place is located at Chyenhal, overlooking the moor, with wonderful views of of West Penwith and adjacent to Penwith Pets Memorial Gardens, which was established in 1988 providing peace and comfort to all pet owners. Now pets and their owners may be buried together. | |

David is a 'proper job' Cornishman who is a brilliant storyteller. I highly recommend his CD "Piskey Threshing", described below. There are references to village wisewomen contained within this collection. "Although Cornwall is rich
in folklore, there are few volumes in print today to remind us of this
fact. Perhaps the most renowned Cornish folklorist was William
Bottrell, who in the latter part of the 19th Century, published three
privately printed volumes of 'drolls'. For the latter part of his
life Bottrell toured the villages and public houses of West Cornwall, |

Kurt Jackson is one of Britain's leading painters. Born in 1961
his work embraces an extensive range of materials and techniques
including mixed media, large canvases, relief work, print making and
sculpture. Whether working in Cornwall, up country or abroad,Jackson's paintings are set in places that have been travelled to and explored regularly through out his life and seen through the eyes of an artist with a deep and rich understanding of natural history and ecology, politics and environmental issues; maybe recording a time and place and a way of life - a geography where past and present co exist. |
