Indian Head Massage

What is it?

It is a lovely relaxing treatment, involving massage of the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face.
It is a traditional  culture practised in India for over a thousand years. Mothers passed this down to their daughters, which kept their hair healthy, thick and in wonderful condition. This technique is also used on men who visit Barbers for a shave and/or haircut.

What does it do?

.1) Neck and shoulders- circulation is stimulated, muscle tension eliminated, rids body of toxins,
brings oxygen to body tissues, restores movement to joints,
mobilises and stretches tissues of the shoulders and neck.

2)Head massage-            improves and stimulates circulation of the scalp,
promotes growth and strength of hair, combined with texture,
tones the muscles, relaxes scalp, relieves headaches, eyestrain etc.

3) Face massage-            rebalances energy flow, leaves you peaceful and tranquil, soothes and comforts.

Treatment

You will be given a Consultation which will take about 15 minutes, concerning your lifestyle, medical history, why you feel you need the treatment and what to expect from it. Your Therapist will ask how you prefer to have the treatment e.g. with your shoulders bare, or with your clothes on, also whether you wish to have oils used during the treatment. You will be asked to remove your shoes and you will be seated on a chair ensuring that you are warm and comfortable.
After the Therapist has washed their hands, they will begin the massage on your upper back, arms and neck. When the therapist works on your neck and scalp, it would be better for you if you try to totally relax and let the Therapist take the full weight of your head in their hands. After the scalp has been massaged the treatment will finish on the face. The movements used will be effleurage (stroking ) and also some vigorous, brisk movements on the scalp to stimulate the circulation. This will be the routine, but can be adapted if needed. The treatment will take approximately 35 minutes. After the treatment you will be offered a drink of water.

Aftercare

You will be advised to drink plenty of water, you will be warned about “healing crisis” e.g. may experience headache, visit the toilet more frequently- this is beacuse of a detoxifying effect on the body. Do not eat a heavy meal after treatment and avoid stimulants such as tea, coffee, alcohol. If you are driving have your window open and get some rest at home. You are advised to contact your Therapist if any adverse reactions occur after treatment.
Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner that corresponds with your hair type. Wash your hair 2-3 times a week and always wash your brushes and combs when you wash your hair. Always consult a Hairdresser for permanent waves or colorants as these can damage the hair and dry the scalp. Use a sunscreen on your hair as you do on your skin when sunbathing. Brush or comb your hair regularly to keep in good condition and for stimulation.

Try this treatment and feel the difference to your hair and scalp!

It is recommended by GPs for people who suffer with tension headaches or migraines.
