All About Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils, which maintains and promotes vitality and health of the emotions, spirit and physical body.
The knowledge of the medicinal use of plant properties goes back as far as 2800 BC, used by the Chinese and Egyptians.
In 1964, a French scientist Dr. Jean Valnet, conducted medical trials to treat psychiatric and medical disorders successfully. His work was published as “Aromatherapy”.

Although oils can be used in many ways, massage is the most important and common method of application. An Aromatherapy massage combines the therapeutic power of touch, with the properties of oils. Massage is an effective way of introducing oils into the body. As your skin absorbs the oils, a useful amount will be taken into the bloodstream in the short time it takes to complete the massage.
This treatment is relaxing, using mainly effleurage (stroking) movements, instead of more vigorous movements as in Swedish massage. Thumb and finger pressures are used to stimulate nerves and tissues and encouraging energy flow throughout the body.

Routine for an Aromatherapy Treatment

Before the treatment, a confidential consultation will take place, which will take details of your health and life-style. Your therapist will discuss which oils she has chosen to use and why, according to your reason for treatment. You will be checked for any contra-indications to treatment and asked to pay a visit to the toilet, so that you are comfortable during the treatment.
You will be left to remove the relevant clothing, depending on the area to be treated. You will be covered with towels when lying on the couch. If you are having a facial treatment your face will be cleansed beforehand. Your feet are always cleansed prior to treatment, if it is a body massage. The order of a full body massage is; The back, back of legs, front of legs, feet, abdomen, arms, neck, shoulders, face and scalp (if required). The routine can be adapted to suit your needs.
After the treatment, you will be advised to leave the oils on the body for at least 8 hours, to maximize the effects. It is important to remember that the oils have a sedatory effect if you are driving after treatment. Home-care advice will be given on which oils to use at home and how to use them. Further treatments will be discussed and arranged if needed.

Your treatment will be extremely enjoyable, as we will do everything within our capabilities to ensure you are relaxed, happy and stress-free!!
